History of NIOSH N95 Respirator Masks

The usage of respirator masks dates back to Ancient Roman times when it was suggested to wear something over the mouth and nose to protect you from inhaling harmful dust particles created by crushing the toxic material, cinnabar. Since then, scientific and inventive improvements have led to the masks that we use now.

In the early 1900s, the United States Bureau of Mines (USBM) was created to address the high fatality of mineworkers. In 1919, the first respirator certification program was established, and masks for the US Navy, firefighters, and workers in other dangerous situations were made to be distributed.

Respirator masks functionality progressed over the first few years, and just in time for the Influenza that affected those all over the United States in the late 1910s. Since then, they have made strides to create various respirator masks with specific benefits and cater to individual needs.

NIOSH-Approval

The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 established the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The NIOSH was formed as a research institute focused on creating safer and healthier work environments for people.

Still to this day, the NIOSH and OSHA contribute to regulating workplace safety materials and respirator masks.

About the NIOSH N95 Respirator Mask

The NIOSH N95 Respirator Mask is meant to protect the person wearing it from airborne and liquid particles that could get into your system. These masks are meant to fit very closely to your face and often have to be fitted to you to ensure protection. N95 Respirator Masks often are used in medical settings where there is a greater risk for disease contamination.

Most people who work with infectious diseases will wear this product to protect themselves from viruses and infections. N95 face masks and respirator face masks are a great prevention tactic against droplets, gases, and vapors that carry bacteria or viruses.

The N95 Respirator is meant to have a tighter fit around your mouth and nose to protect them from exposure. The head straps and ear loops can easily be adjusted so you can fit them to your face properly; these masks also are supposed to be excellent in filtering the air you breathe when wearing the mask.

The N95 Respirator can only earn its designation if it’s able to filter out 95 percent or more of airborne particles. If you work with infectious diseases, these masks are meant to be used once and then disposed of to avoid contamination. These masks can be reused until they become overused for those working where infectious disease exposure is not an issue.

Not all N95 Respirators are NIOSH approved, but the ones that WellBefore sells are! If you are looking for the right NIOSH-approved N95 Respirator, you’ve come to the right place!

Product Details

If you purchase an N95 Respirator mask from WellBefore, you’ll receive only the best quality and most effective products. All N95 Respirators are made of synthetic polymer fibers such as nonwoven polypropylene fabric. They can filter out particles so efficiently due to the melt-blown process it goes through, where the inner filtration layer is produced. This layer is capable of filtering out particles that could be dangerous if you inhale them.

As mentioned previously, these masks are meant to be very tightly fitted to your face. Those who receive these masks are meant to be specific to your face and often have to be fitted to make sure that the protection it promises will work for you.

These masks are not meant for children to wear, as they won’t fit on a child’s face. If you have facial hair, these masks will not sit properly on your face and may cause openings that can allow for hazardous particles to enter your throat and nose, which means that it’s not recommended to wear this unless you are shaven. It can tightly fit around your face, neck, and chin.

Product Use

The N95 Respirator was created with construction workers, miners, and painters in mind. This is because the respirators help when working with toxic materials and fumes. NIOSH-approved respirators are often seen being used in hospitals and medical care settings.

Currently, if you work in the healthcare system, you know that it’s required to wear an N95 Respirator Mask if you are dealing with COVID-19 patients. The best way to find the right NIOSH-approved N95 mask is to try out different models and designs, double-check in a mirror or with a colleague that there are no visible gaps, and make sure that the seal is protected.
