Paying with Your HSA or FSA Card

Most plans follow the IRS list of qualified medical expenses under Publication 502. Your specific plan may stack extra rules on top (some are strict about mixed carts, some require LMNs for dental or vision). Don't Lose Your FSA Funds

Most FSA balances are use-it-or-lose-it and reset on December 31. Some employers add a 2.5-month grace period; others let you roll $640 into the next year (2024 limit). Past that? Gone. HSA vs. FSA - Quick Difference

FSA (Flexible Spending Account) is employer-sponsored, pre-tax, use-it-or-lose-it by December 31. 2025 contribution limit: $3,300.

HSA (Health Savings Account) requires a high-deductible health plan. Pre-tax, rolls over every year, the money stays yours. 2025 limits: $4,300 individual, $8,550 family.

Both pay for qualified medical expenses with pre-tax dollars. Typical savings land around 20-35% vs. paying out of pocket.
