What is ExacTemp technology?
ExacTemp is Braun's positioning confirmation system. Before a reading is taken, the thermometer checks that the probe tip is correctly placed in the ear canal. A steady green light and a beep signal correct placement — if the probe is angled wrong, the device withholds the reading to prevent inaccurate results.
Do I need to use a lens filter every time?
Yes. Each measurement should use a clean, disposable lens filter for hygienic use and accurate readings. The filter caps the probe tip to prevent contamination and ensure consistent IR measurement. 21 filters are included; refills (LF20) are available separately.
Can I use this on a newborn?
Yes — the ThermoScan 5 is safe for all ages including newborns. Select the 0–3 month age setting, and follow the color indicator. Note: the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends rectal thermometry as the gold standard for infants under 3 months; consult your pediatrician.
How do I read the age-based color indicator?
Before measuring, select the age group (0–3M / 3–36M / 36M+). After the reading, the display shows a color: green = normal range, yellow/orange = elevated or high. Exact cutoffs vary slightly by age group — see the Age Guide accordion above.
What batteries does it use?
